Resolving the Cause of Pain and Tightness
Just like when our car breaks down, sometimes we need a specialist to "look under the hood" to see where the issue is coming from and fix it. We also may need them to do routine maintenance or preventative maintenance.
Its the same with our body!
At Muscle Mechanic, I am looking for and resolving the cause of pain and tightness. I do this by using Muscle Activation Techniques® to identify why our muscular system isn't functioning properly, and then improve the muscle function.
Where Does Pain and Tightness Come From?
Like a car battery, our muscles are “hooked up” to our brain by the nervous system. Our muscles can’t function efficiently without this very important relationship.
When our body experiences stressors (A few examples being: falling, accidents, sports, underuse and overuse) this very important relationship can get inhibited. Or in other words, the “battery cable” gets loose, resulting in a loss of voltage to the muscle. This loss of voltage can result in loss of function, weakness, limited range of motion, etc.
This loss of function from “loose battery cables” tell the nervous system to tighten up to protect itself from instability and weakness, and use tightness and pain to signal like a check engine light trying to get our attention to fix the issue.
In other words, pain and tightness are secondary to neuromuscular weakness.
How Do We Resolve The Pain and Tightness?
Simply put, I tighten “battery cables”.
And since our muscles lose function (and “voltage”) when these “battery cables” get loose, function gets improved or restored when they are “tightened”.
Using Muscle Activation Techniques®, we perform a neuromuscular test to see if the “battery cables” are loose. If so, we will perform a treatment where the attachments of the weakened muscle are palpated (tightening the “battery cable”). We will then perform another neuromuscular test to see the improved muscle function.
The body responds to this simple but effective treatment by improving function and range of motion while reducing pain and tightness!
